The Gram Panchayat is the most basic unit of local self-government institutions in India. Gram Panchayats function to fulfill the needs of rural people and implement development activities. Through the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, the Panchayati Raj system received constitutional recognition.The main objective of a Gram Panchayat is to ensure the social, economic, health, educational, and infrastructural development of the village.
